Vocabulary is base of language skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing. It is very important to be mastered. Speaking would be meaningless and perhaps impossible having only structure without vocabulary. Nobody could listen clearly without master vocabulary. Students master vocabulary. rnMoreover, Writing could not be arranged without vocabulary mastery. Therefore, many approaches are created to improve vocabulary mastery well. rnMnemonic is one of technique to train good vocabulary. It is applied to help rnstudents memorize vocabulary well and without need more time to do it. Teacher can s enjoy in English learning process. rnBesides that, it can create the comfortable of students in the class activity. The students can improve their vocabulary well and. Therefore, using mnemonic to vocabulary mastery is very useful. In other words, it is more effective in expending their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. For this reason, mnemonic is applied to This study is aimed to describe the influence of mnemonic to improve vocabulary mastery among the eighth year students at SMP Kyai Hasyim, Surabaya. This study used quantitative as the approach of the study, and t test was used to analyze the data obtained. rnThe subject used in this study is eighth year students because they got functional text; narrative, descriptive, recount. Meanwhile, random sampling was used as the technique of sampling. Moreover, the students of eighth year are chosen as the sample since they have got functional text in which they had been taught about adjective and adverb. rnBased on the research conducted, the calculation showed that t-value is bigger than t-table. It stated that 4.224 > 2.024. It can be concluded that there are significant conventional technique. It means that the application of mnemonic technique influence improve their vocabulary mastery.
