This research was motivated by the fact that Islamic education world in the residency of Palembang growing and thriving in social, religious, and political situation while under Dutch Colonial rule. Changes in these aspects would have direct or indirect relathionship with various social chnages, religiosity, and the politics with system existence and Islamic education institutions. Based on analysis towards the present data, this research concludes that system development and modern Islamic education institution in Islamic school format and Islamic school format and Islamic school in Palembang Residency at Dutch colonial rule period tended to be dominated by modernist Muslim Group [Mudo People]. Traditionalist people have spearheaded efforts to reform the institution and the system of Islamic education in the area since 1925 and have the dominant role mainly in the context of development of Islamic education in the capital of residency [Palembang].ifa.
