Many texts of hadits considered to be genuine statement of the Prophet Muhammad as found in the Shahih al Bukhari and Shahih Muslim indicate misogyny [hatred of women]. When such hadits are read literally, they seem to humiliate women. As a matter of fact, there are many texts of hadits that show the equality of women and men. The misundertanding is caused by the the old tradition of Islam [Arab tradition, in this case] which generally consider the women as they are worthless. In other word, the practice of discrimination is socially constructed. Therefore, there must be a reconstruction on the understanding of the society about women altogether with the increase of women's participation in every part of life.ifa.
