Zahiri is one of the Islamic law schools. It's held by Imam Abud Daud, from which the name of the school is taken. It's called Zahiri because of its unique methodology to derive Islamic law from its sources. The school understands the text of both al Qur'an and al Hadis literally. Its followers believe that the both al Qur'an and al Hadis, as the main sources, provide everything, and nothing is beyond them. Therefore they reject qiyas or analogy and regard it as non Islamic methodology. For them, everything of Islamic teaching, particulalrly related to Islamic law, can be found in the verses of al Qur'an, al Hadis and ijma' [the consensus of ulama]. When a problem isn't implicitly regaled by the sources, it must be back to what called Istishhab. The last term actually is the principles of logic of language to understand the other meaning of the literal one. According to their methodology, actually they use the logic, but limited to the one language.ifa.
