The Qur'an was not repealed in an empty space, but in a space in which the Arab society lived. It responded dialectically to their social, political, religious and cultural life. Socio-linguistically speaking, the Qur'an claims that it makes the Arabic language as its communication media. Long before Islam, the Arabs has already received the highest level of lingistic civilization. They are very famous for their eloquence in articulating their ideas, thoughts and imaginations. It is said that poets, preachers and rhyme makers represented real figures in the life of the Arabs. The 'mysterious' letters [al huruf al muqatha'ah] as a form of language used by the Qur'an also play an important role of making the languange of al Qur'an beautiful. They came into existence in a linguistic tradition of the Arabs. However, their existence in the Qur'an has altered the pattern of verbal communications from its conventional type to the symbolic one. Conventionally, the mysterious letters.....yo.
