At least there are two main reasons why the existence of Muhammadiyah within the religious pluralism in Yogyakarta is interesting to be studied.The first raeson is related to the character of Muhammadiyah as a religious group which always stresses on the purification of Islamic teachings [from non-Islamic traditon]. Within this organisation it does not result in any problem. However, in a broader space it would face problems with othher religious groups like Islam Kejawen [Javanized Islam] and Nahdlatul Ulama [NU], whose religious understanding is different from that of Muhammadiyah. The other reason is the fact that Muhammadiyah is the largest Islamic organisation in Yogyakarta and plays and important role in the dynamics of social life there. On this basis, how Muhammadiyah behaves and responds to the difference of religious groups and understandings is interesting to be discussed. Multiculturalism here can be a measure for knowing how the pattern of relationship between......yo.
