This article deals with the discussion by Thabari, Zamakhshari and Thabarsi on naskh, with special reference to verses Q. 2: 106 and Q. 22: 52. The fokus of the paper is on how they anchor the term naskh in these verses og the Qur'an. These three scholars have been selected for study based on two considerations: firs, that they represent the three main intellectual trends in early Islam - the Sunni, represented by Thabari, the Mu'tazili, represented by Zamakhshari, and the Shi'i, represented by Thabarsi, and second, that between them they explore virtually every aspect of the issue. syur.
